I Am Azania: Don't Call Me South Africa

"Don't Call Me South Africa... I am Azania" was originally written by Pan-African activist and poet Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Gueye also known as 'Sheikh.' He often recited the poem at protests against anti-apartheid and debates on the colonisation of South Africa. Whilst living as exiles in London, with a shared view of Pan Africanism, Ahmed Sheikh met Dr Motsoko Pheko and collaborated on the poem, adding to the original version. The poem is included in one of Dr Motsoko Pheko's bestsellers, 'South Africa: Betrayal of a Colonised People' that is the version featured in this publication.
