Hypertext Daniel and Revelation: With Index, Notes and Links

The prophecies of Daniel and Revelation are the only sure road-map of end-time events. They are also a wellspring of the Christian hope in the return of Christ. But more than this, they reveal the character of God in what He is about to do, the acts of justice and mercy He is about to perform to bring evil and suffering to an end. They are a revelation of Jesus Christ. According to Malachi and Daniel, in the end-times Christ will "purify the sons of Levi", His people, and He will cleanse His sanctuary. The love and mercy of God are too great to remove His beloved church from the earth before His work in her is complete. The church is not raptured before the events described in Revelation. Instead, Christ calls on us to endure with Him to the end, allowing Him to refine us in the process. Matt. 24:13. The trouble of the end-times is His purifying crucible that prepares His bride for her Lord. When the faith of the remnant is tested to the limit and there is apparently no way of escape from the beast, Christ, mounted on His white horse appears. Rev. 19:11-21. By signs and wonders exceeding the plagues on Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea, Christ delivers and triumphs with His people. Therefore, in the lead-up to His second advent, the students of Scripture should especially be studying the following: First, we need to settle the question of whether the pre-tribulation rapture is scriptural. Second, we must understand the infamous mark of the beast, 666, and what it entails. The "abomination of desolation" spoken of by Daniel which Christ tells us to read and understand is tied directly to this number and the mark. There would be little point in studying this if the church is raptured first. Third, our study should focus on the cleansing of the sanctuary as prophesied in Daniel 8:14 and described in Daniel 7 to 12 and Revelation 4 to 19. This encompasses the sealing of the 144,000, the removal and blotting out of their sins, the cleansing of the sanctuary, and the wedding of Christ to His bride. Christ extends His personal invitation to us to be part of that remnant group, His spotless bride. To receive such a royal invitation is a high honor. Last but not least, we should study the warnings of the seven trumpets, of the Two Witnesses and of the three angels of Revelation 8 to 11 and 14 which are given under the refreshing of the Holy Spirit. The latter rain will quench the thirsty soul and ripen the harvest. Christ only puts the sickle to His field when the grain is fully ripe. The study notes contain occasional references to the commentaries of Uriah Smith and Ellen White who both lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Smith was an Adventist author and editor, a respected authority on prophecy and church history. His views reflect the historical understanding of Daniel and Revelation which were widely held by Protestants until the 20th century and are still held by many Adventists. A modernized version of the King James Bible has been used. Besides a topical index, the text is interspersed with notes and hyperlinks. The notes are in italic and square brackets [like this] . Those in green font are comments on the historical fulfillment of the prophecy. Those in purple are on their future fulfillment. PDF Navigation tip.
