Dr Rappaccini prepares for his next important botanical and toxicological experiment on his own daughter. He tests the effects of Hymenoxys (Rubber Weed); toxic to sheep due to the presence of the sesquiterpene lactone. He decides to test if it is toxic to humans.

Beatrice, Dr Rappaccini's daughter lives amongst toxic plants in a private garden. The effects of the ongoing tests makes her suffer from Cataplexy.

Larry, Dr Rappaccini's Assistant is secretly in love with Beatrice, but keeps this to himself, in fear of Dr Rappaccini's outrage. He secretly wants to stop the experiments on Beatrice.
