Hydrometallurgy harnesses the chemistry of aqueous solutions to extract metals from a variety of sources, including ores, mineral concentrates, and even recycled materials or residues left from previous processes. These factors, combined with the pressing need to enhance energy efficiency, reduce water and resource consumption, and improve the management of waste materials, underscore the imperative for innovation in the field.
