Life s tune

A delightful debut! Nothing is subtracted of this exclamation by saying that the volume shares the typical character of young writers first collections: the stories are originated on feelingly different levels of accomplishment, though it should be mentioned that here even the least handsomely crafted narratives must be called witty and poised. The best of which however, like -The Burglary-, let you forget while reading that what you are reading has been written, and transform the writers voice in your own narrative whisper, lifes coherent tune. And leave you, as satisfying as they are, thirsty ... for more.

Finely crafted and compelling

My only disappointment with Hurry Home was that there wasn't any more when I reached the end - hopefully there will be soon! The stories are compelling and finely crafted with not a word wasted. They exemplify the type of fiction I most admire - carefully layered, emotional and romantic, yet understated and subtle. Perhaps my favorite story is "Thin Air". With its brilliant twists of tense and person, this is about as perfect a piece of writing as I can think of. The stories with male narrators are remarkably successful for a woman writer. "Devotion", the story of a child's passage into the troubling powers of attachment and loyalty, is haunting. And "Hurry Home" itself suffuses a tantalizing "poison itch" right through to the end. Thank you for such wonderfully polished gems!

Well-crafted, quality short stories

I read one of Ann Scott Knight's short stories some time ago in the Marlboro Review. I liked the story so well that I was delighted to hear that Ms. Knight's book was out. Excellent book. I was not disappointed when I read it. It's staying on my book shelf and will be read again.
