Very strongly recommended for professional and community library Business reading lists and referenc

We are currently amidst what is universally acknowledged as the worst recession in American business history since the Great Depression of the 1930s. But even if we weren't, "Hunker Down Survival Plan For Business Owners" by insurance industry consultant Edward D. Curry should be considered as compulsory reading for any small business owner or corporate executive having to face the problems of balancing their budgets, cutting costs, and contemplating the sale of their business. Packed within its 124 pages is a compendium of sound advice, cogently presented, and simply invaluable for the successful negotiating of these economic hard times. Practical, insightful, thoughtful and thought-provoking, "Hunker Down Survival Plan For Business Owners" lays out things to consider and things to do within a 'real world' context. This is no ivory tower business philosophy text, but a working document that will provide tangible assistance in problem solving and decision making -- that kind of problem solving and decision making that is the basis upon which the success of any and all entrepreneurial ventures are founded. "Hunker Down Survival Plan For Business Owners" is very strongly recommended for professional and community library Business reading lists and reference collections.

A "must-read" book to get you thinking about the survival of your business in 2009 and beyond

Mr. Curry's book is written in a decidedly "conversational" style, with personal observations that the average small-business owner -- or large-business owner, for that matter -- can relate to. While it certainly is not in the style of mega-authors such as Tom Hopkins, Brian Tracy or Steven R. Covey, Mr. Curry's "down home" approach and anecdotes make it a very easy and enjoyable read. He doesn't load it down with charts and plans and strategies, but rather sets the tone for one to consider what is right and wrong with their business, and what they had better do NOW in order to survive in the economic climate of 2009 and beyond. While Mr. Curry's primary experience is working with insurance agents and agency owners, and much of the book is based on his observations in that field, it translates well into any industry or business of any size. I read this book on the train while traveling from Baltimore to NYC, and by the time I got to NYC I was already formulating strategies based on Mr. Curry's recommendations. This book provides tips and hints for making your company a bit more "recession-proof," and for this small-business owner, was well worth the investment and time to read it.

Practical plan for insurance agency survival

Ed Curry has a wealth of experience evaluating insurance agencies, their owners, and personnel. In these crunch times, the advice he offers in this concise book can mean the difference between staying afloat and sinking. Even for those not in the insurance industry, Curry's "Five Little Blocks Critique Tool" is a valuable insight. Over the course of presenting numerous seminars, Curry has discovered that those attending who rate themselves very likely or likely to implement what they've learned (consistently a total of 35%) will, in fact, be able to adapt to new circumstances, make necessary changes and achieve greater success. Change, especially lately, is inevitable. Motivation to change is difficult to achieve. Finding better ways to encourage people to put theoretical concepts into practice has far reaching implications not just in business but in all facets of life.
