More fun than a picnic!

This is a really cute book of counting from 1-10. The illustrations are vivid and imaginative and most of all funny! This will tickle the funny-bone of your pre-schooler and make learning fun. When learning is fun, what's learned is rememberred!

Numbers made easy!

Not only is it educational, but it is also brightly colored, we all know kids love to look pictures! While you and your child read this book, your child, without even knowing it, will begin learning numbers and basic mathematical operations! As each ant comes into the story, you will find your child adding them subconciously!

Read this to any two year old and see what happens.

I have twins who love this book and now can read it on their own. The love to lick the lollipop and name the ants after their friends and family members. My two have not enjoyed a book this much since The Monster at the End of this Book.

A great tool for introducing children to basic concepts.

In selecting children's books for my youngest son I was dismayed at the number of books that I had to get at the library for his entertainment. Picture and story books that seemed popular for the less-than-two-year-old audience just didn't seem to click. We would read a book in five minutes and put it in the return pile without a second look. When we read "Hungry Ants" the reaction was quite different. A first reading produced laughs of delight as we discovered the escapades of the tiny adventurers. The real surprise was that after the first reading, an encore presentation was requested! We proceded to read the book SEVEN more times my son was satisfied.I found that my son was not the only one intrigued by the book. I (relatively) quickly figured out that unlike other books, this book was meant to be read multiple times. Each time the book is read it is possible to interactively discover new concepts with your child. Numbers, colors, shapes, directions, and types of food are all ideas that young children learn, and this book provides a forum for exploring them all as well as others. The artwork is delightful, colorful, and entertaining. Ms. McGrath has developed inddividual characteristics for her characters that amuse adults and children as well.If you are looking for a book that will remain a favorite for young children as well as provide a tool for teaching, "Hungry Ants" belongs in your collection. I can only hope that there will be books in the series!
