Humpty Dumpty Is A Friend Of Mine is truly a unique book. It is appealing to the child in all of us. The new born child will be comforted by the soothing tones of the text as it is read to him. The toddler will begin to recite the repeating phrase, Humpty Dumpty is a friend of mine. He will soon be " reading " the book because of its repetitive nature. The preschool child learns the nursery rhymes represented in the book. The early reader will soon recognize many of the repeating words. Five and six year old children will appreciate the rhyming words found in the text and begin to see the pattern of word families. Seven to eight year old children will be challenged if they wish to extend the nursery rhymes represented in the book. Nine to ten year old children can be encouraged to create new versions of the nursery rhymes. Older children, and, indeed, adults are fascinated with the variety of scenes and their inherent invitation to speculate on the actions taking place in each case. This is truly a unique book - a book to grow up on!
