This manual has been designed to be used by students to develop laboratory skills, to become familiar with the methods of science, and to learn the significant concepts of anatomy. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Although this book was last edited in 1986, its usefulness is timeless. The information is presented in a systemic format and begins as would any typical high school or college Human Anatomy course would - with body organization, terminology and histology. Basic anatomy of the organ systems is presented and highlights major structures associated with each system. Instructions are clearly presented for cat dissections and are easy to follow. The chapter on skeletal system focuses only on human skeleton - articulated and disarticulated, along with joints. Chapter on musculature focuses both on human muscles and dissection/identificaiton of cat muscles. Besides cat dissections, the authors provide helpful instruction on how to dissect and identify structures in the sheep brain, eye, and heart (organs commonly used in an anatomy class). This manual excels in its clear instructions which can be easily followed by the student during dissection procedures. The diagrams are excellent and by all indications, accurately labeled. All photographs are in black and white and in many cases the contrast and resolution are not very good, thus making it difficult to compare with actual dissections. Each chapter ends with self-quizzes; rip-out homework assignments may be found in the back of the book for each chapter. Overall, this is a good book for the student who wants a neatly packaged manual for independent investigations. I recommend supplementing this manual with one that has color photographs to be used in histology and cat dissection.
