Hugs mean everything to me. I have a sensory issue in my right ear that can only be relieved by pressing it on the cheek of the person I like, mostly females. People think intelligence equals no needs and no disability and I shouldn't have these needs. I started out in Special Ed. They actually showered each other with hugs daily in that world. I was normalized into your world but my needs never went away. Hugs are considered sexual in the medical community and sometimes the general public. People used to think I was retarded. Now, I'm being punished for having these needs because I seem normal to them. It actually traumatizes me not to be able to hug the people I like especially nurses. I wish I'd never left Special Ed so my needs would be met. I have affection and dependency needs due to autism and always have since birth. I hope reading this book will help you see this and help you understand the importance of meeting these needs.
