What I hope readers gain from our entertaining travels with Huey and the other hummingbirds, and a look into what might be the mind of a hummingbird, is the question of how we can replant and help the hummingbirds recover here in the Western United States that has been severely devastated by fire, with vital nesting grounds for these birds, and others, has been removed. Without focused management, an effort to restore the balance in the forested and flowering areas that hummingbirds depend on, regardless of climate change, these populations will continue to show a significant decline in their numbers.The lovely Rufus, and ruby throated hummingbirds, can be attracted to backyards, and meadows, by planting different kinds of honeysuckle, columbine, trumpet creeper, sage, lupine, and petunia. The air is alive when you have hummingbirds near you.
