A city boy with an attitude is forced to spend the summer with his missionary grandmother. His howling has some dire consequences. Howard, a 12-year-old beasty brat-an only child-lives in a city apartment with his single-parent mom. When he becomes too much of a pain for her to handle, she sends him for the summer to her mother in a small rural town. Howard tries to bug his retired-missionary grandmother enough that she'll get sick of him and send him packing back to his city friends. Howard discovers his grandmother's hidden talents and the legacy of his own favorite pastime. Learning about himself, his family history, overcoming his whiny behavior and making new friends at the church he didn't want to attend, transforms a resistant brat into a likable boy with a caring heart and a bright future.
