Inspired by a real bear cub seen on explore.org's livecam, How Velcro Got His Name is about a bear cub that learns how to survive in the Alaskan wilderness and earns his place in the world. As Velcro gains the skills to survive in the Alaskan wilderness with help from his Mama and Otis, a gigantic brown bear, he teaches us what it takes to face our fears and our detractors head-on.

The book explores elements of animal behavior, natural habitat, wildlife conservation, and the environment.
