Make time to work on them. Pets, like humans, become out of shape without physical activity. To help prevent many behavioral and medical problems, it is critical to get 1 hour of physical activity every day of the week. You can even divide the hour of activity into three or four smaller bursts of fun. In the morning, take a 15-minute walk around the block. When you get home from work, toss the ball in the backyard. Then, after dinner, go for a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood with the whole family. Provide a stimulating environment for cats by providing a variety of toys. Make time for mental exercise as well. For their mental health, 15 minutes of mental exercise is equivalent to one hour of physical play. The more mental stimulation we give our pets, the less likely they are to develop undesirable behaviors. Feed your pet's meals using a special food-dispensing ball. Toss a handful of food into the yard and let your pet sniff around for hidden treasures. Once or twice a day, for 10 minutes at a time, practice basic obedience (sit, stay, and down).
