Excellent, if a bit dated.

This book, unlike many modern books on stepchild-rearing, acknowledges the difficulties and negative emotions that are present in the stepfamily situation, matter-of-factly. There is no guilt induction, or skirting around that issue that many steparents are not comfortable with their role, and may even not like their stepchildren (Diety forbid). Instead, this book helps you understand how work through or around these obstacles, and will even frankly tell you if your marriage might not have been the best thing for you. It emphasizes this important fact:While the children are not the most important thing in the family, they are the most permanent. While spouses may come or go, children and parents are stuck with each other. So, if you can ignore the strange circa 1970 references "if you are uncomfortable with pot smoking in the house but your spouse is not . . ." then this book can be a great tool to help you better come to terms with your position in t! he stepfamily!
