I am in the business of aquariums, I install and maintain them, I am looking at installing jellyfish aquariums in the future. This book, which I am currently reading, should prove itself good. It is long, like a book, not a booklet full of facts, it is a read from front to back book. But very very good.

How to Keep Jellyfish in Aquariums is a fantastic reference for those who want to dip their toes into modern-day jelly husbandry. The book is logically laid out in two distinct sections: general setup/care, and a species section that has potential jellyfish listed in order from easy to challenging. Each species description includes feeding methods, tank sizes and geographic status, as well as individualized tips and techniques to encourage success. I would shove this book at anyone who has been daunted in the past by the hype (and prices) surrounding captive cnidaria. Specialized spherical aquariums costing tens of thousands of dollars are no longer required. The author explains techniques to inexpensively begin a jelly collection and includes thoughts on tank design, double-decker tank plumbing and bio filtration. The principles described work for home aquaria, or can be extrapolated to huge tank sizes. Mr. Widmer manages to explain all details of his personal invertebrate passion with zeal, a "Bill Bryson meets Bill Nye" style of humor, and without the typical stuffy Britannica tone set in many guides. Buy it!
Excellent

Thsi book is a must for someone interested in jellyfish (from scientists to aquarists). I do recommend it! Full of details and tips for the beginner and for experts wanting to improve their jellies cultures. The figures are somewhat small making difficult to see some details of the aquariums designs and species.
Great fun for someone not planning to raise jellyfish ...

I read the book out of curiosity as a volunteer guide at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Aquarium's jelly collections are a favorite of many visitors and a favorite of mine. Visitors often ask about how we care for jellyfish and sometimes express interest in keeping them at home. I found the book to be very informative and entertaining. Technical details are organized in a way that helped me see the "big picture." Chad Widmar's accounts of the challenges in culturing and caring for various species will add a lot of color to stories I can tell. His description of the food chain (who eats whom) answers a very frequently asked question and will help young visitors see connections between exhibits in a meaningful way. If you have seen jellyfish displayed in an aquarium and are curious about how it is done, whether or not you wish to "try this a home," you will find the book a fun and worthwhile read.
