How to Fold Modular Origami: A Step-by-Step Guide to Folding, Connecting, and Creating Beautiful Origami Models

By Claire J. Redfern

How to Fold Modular Origami is a practical beginner-friendly guide to creating beautiful origami structures from multiple folded paper modules. Rather than focusing only on individual folds, this book teaches readers how separate pieces work together to form complete designs.

Readers learn how modular origami differs from traditional origami, how modules, tabs, and pockets work, and why accuracy and repetition are essential. The book also explains how to choose suitable paper, understand paper size and thickness, prepare a comfortable workspace, and organize modules before assembly.

Step-by-step guidance covers essential folding techniques, including straight folds, valley folds, mountain folds, corner folds, edge folds, diagonals, and crease correction. Readers then learn how to create consistent modules and connect them without forcing or damaging the paper.

The book progresses into practical modular projects, including stars, three-dimensional geometric forms, flowers, and repeating decorative patterns. It also explores color palettes, repeating color patterns, contrast, and ways to develop original designs.

For beginners who encounter crooked structures, loose or tight connections, inconsistent modules, or damaged paper, the troubleshooting section provides practical ways to identify and correct common problems.

By the end, readers are encouraged to move beyond following instructions and begin experimenting with their own modular origami designs.
