Daniel Carter wakes up face-down in a ditch.
He has no idea how he got there. His heart isn't beating. His skin is cold. And he's very, very hungry.
Apparently, Daniel has been dead for six months.
The good news is that he can still think. The bad news is that his memories are disappearing, being around living people makes him dangerously hungry, and everyone he loves thinks he's dead.
So Daniel starts writing things down.
His name. His family. What happened to him. The rules he needs to follow if he wants to remain himself.
Rule #1: DON'T EAT PEOPLE. Seriously.
With the help of Maya Bennett, a girl armed with a hammer, an alarming amount of common sense, and very little trust in zombies, Daniel begins piecing together what happened the night he died.
But the more he discovers, the less he remembers.
And somewhere out there is Emma, the little sister he knows he loves.
Even if he can no longer remember why.
