How Social-Emotional Learning is Used in Schools and Adjustments for Students with Disabilities

At the core of being an educational leader is ensuring every student has access to quality

leaming and growth opportunities (Dinham, 2005). When teachers become aware of unfairness or equality for students, they must be willing to say this is not okay and has to be fixed (Seidi & Friend, 2002). Research indicated only supplying an academic knowledge base for kids does not provide a well-rounded education for all students (Lauricella, & MacAskill, 2015). Schools have focused on content and achievement instead of social-emotional leaming for political and non- political reasons (Abrams, 2023). Social and emotional skills are critical to the long-term success of each student, Social and emotional competencies are essential for a successful adult life and being a positive, contributing member of society (Jones & Kahn, 2017). Thus, evidence is provided to build background knowledge to enhance the rationale of why this is important to educational leaders. Hattie (2015) insisted "the greatest influence on student progression in leaming is having highly expert, inspired and passionate teachers and school leaders working together to maximize the effect of their teaching on all students in their care.
