This book contains two separate stories: How Not to Make Money and What is it ? Both have been published in "Arrow", a monthly community newsletter in Indiantown, Florida, and later in "Temporary Permanence": an anthology of my short stories, which is out of print. Since both stories received favorable responses from readers, I decided to republish them in a form accessible to the general public. The only common thread between the two stories is that they deal with an object with no intrinsic value. Art works, antiques, and other collectibles have no absolute value. Their market values are determined by the degree of collectors' yearning. Literally, someone's junk is someone else's treasure. The first story was based on a haniwa, an ancient Japanese clay sculpture, which I threw away as trash. The second story is a mysterious cast iron object, which I received as a wedding present. So-called experts gave us conflicting opinions, all of which were plausible but not certain. Readers might have similar experiences. These stories may motivate you to re-examine obscure items in your attic or garage. Enjoy!
