An excellent story of counting and fun evolves.

A group of cheerful mice go on a hunt to find food and gather all kinds of fine treats - but instead they uncover trouble in the woods. Greedy cows are stealing cherries, and a scary fox is prowling. They drop their largess and run in fear - but when they arrive home, they need to account for everything lost. An excellent story of counting and fun evolves.

This is not your typical cheesy counting book

Mice seem to be popular these days, at least in the literary world. The heroes of this tail, I mean TALE, are 10 hungry mice who set off to gather food. Along the way they encounter good things - in the form of cherries, tomatoes, corn and carrots (sorry, no cheese here) and bad - meaning....crows, fish, foxes, horned owls (but strangely, no cats). Every page also has a little math question, almost hidden on the page. SLJ doesn't seem to approve of the smaller font and obscurity of these questions, but as a parent, I think it's great! How many times have I heard my kids say...."but what does this say?" In this book, they're carefully hidden so the parent can decide whether they feel like reading them or not :D This is an original counting book, full of adventure and bright, bold illustrations.
