Wren is a city girl who loves to make pictures and to watch the sparrows fly from an old tree in a nearby park. One day, she discovers a tiny door at the foot of the tree, and is thrilled when a magical fairy emerges and shrinks her to fairy size to go on an adventure together. Upon their return, Wren knows she must go back to her regular self, but asks the fairy if she will still be able to fly. In lilting fairy song, she is told that she needs only to do what she loves to fly. As she makes pictures of her exciting memories, Wren feels herself once more soaring through the sky like a bird. The final page asks the reader, "How do you fly?", to encourage following their dreams.
