One of the most complete and down to earth gardening books !

Having met the author, the late Albert Wilson, and been a happy beneficiary of one of his "copies on hand", I was happy to learn of the "cycle" of the garden and a very practical, down-to-earth approach for those who love to garden year 'round. Beginning with "the queen of the garden" the rose, Albert takes us on a journey that gives practical advice including how to prevent or rid plants of pests, when and how to prune; all in such a way that you feel he has confidence that the reader will or has come up to the level of love and enjoyment that he has had over his many years of gardening. With this book you can discover the "cycle " of the garden and learn to rejoice in each season for it's sights and splendor. If you have but two books to purchase for gardening, in your whole life, this would be a good choice, particularly if you live in a Mediterranean climate or on the west coast of the United States. The other volume would have to do with vegetable gardening. Albert Wilson was a friend of mine. He grew up in a San Francisco orphanage and earned his way through college including Stanford University, where he eventlually mentored some of the finest landscapes on the university campus. For many years he was a regular on radio giving us his weekly gardening tips under a program called "Diggin It with Albert". His passion for gardening comes through in his writing that lights the way for those of us who appreciate the garden even when we can't be out diggin'in it.
