Learn about some of the major organs of the body, their functions, and how they are arranged into systems.

The skeletal system is made up of the bones that support the body and are attached to the muscles that make up the muscular system. The skeletal and muscular systems work together to make it possible for your body to move.

The brain is the body's control center and sends messages to the different parts of the body, giving instructions about what to do. The spinal cord carries the messages from the brain to the rest of the body, and along with the brain, is part of the nervous system.

The heart and blood are part of the cardiovascular system in which the heart pumps blood throughout the body, carrying food and oxygen to the muscles. When you exercise, your heart pumps faster, bringing more oxygen to the muscles. In the respiratory system, the lungs move air in and out to provide oxygen to the blood and remove carbon dioxide from the body.

Your mouth and stomach are part of the digestive system, breaking down food so it can be used by the body.

The immune and lymphatic systems work to heal the body and fight illness, and the endocrine system releases chemicals that help the body function.

All the systems in the body work together so you can run, jump, sleep, digest food, and grow.
