This book follows my journey as I pursue a career as an educator. The lessons I learned become invaluable on many levels. I develop a close relationship with a companion I call Oscar. Oscar seems to sit on my shoulder and tries to direct me through that maze called life. When I listen to Oscar and take his advice I usually end up on the bright side of the road. When I shun his promptings, I invariably come to rest in some unknown dark reservoir of uncertainty and dismay. Shakespeare's "To thy own self be true," becomes my battle cry as I stumble and fall time after time. Journey with me as I take you on a survival hike like no other. We will plot our way through the unknown, along some bumpy paths riddled with potholes, detours, and dead ends. But we will emerge victorious.
