In the folklore of Neosho County and Labette County, Kansas, Ladore is known as a wild, end-of-the-tracks town on the line of the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad. In its day it was the site of a mass lynching, a site of settlers' mass meetings and the birthplace of the Settlers' Protective Association. Founded in 1868 and abandoned by the early 1870's due to the plans of the M.K.&T, the history and folklore of this town and background of some of the people of Ladore are explored in this book.
