Fine First Novel - Wish He Wrote More

This could have been a series of lyrical short stories tied together as an ancient family history...sometimes lyrical, disturbing, and interesting. The writing suffered at points, and it was clear this was the product of a novice writer. The question is why he didn't write another.

A beautiful, sensual, lyrical book

I found out about 'The House of Alarcon' through reading another of Dispenza's books, 'The Way of the Traveler.' This is a novel of tremendous beauty, sensual and lyrical. I had no idea this novel existed, or why it didn't become a huge hit when it was published. It's a great reading experience -- fascinating. The book goes back and forth between the present and the past -- all the way back to the conquistadors, in fact. A plot of land that is given to the Alarcon family by the King of Spain in the 1500s becomes the theater for amazing and magical family dramas. This is absolutely first-rate writing, and a story that you can practically feel through the pages.Read it -- you'll love it.
