The day started as normal as any other for young Ugandan girl, Joy. She sat watching her mother make beads from scraps of newspaper, which would be strung together to make a beautiful bracelet. Eventually all the bracelets Joy's mother made would be sold overseas in America, and the money would go toward educating a young boy or girl in Joy's small village. Joy's favorite thing to do was watch her mother make the bracelets. Joy and her family even had their own special bracelet, the very first bracelet her mother ever made. Even though Joy was happy spending her days watching her mother work, Joy couldn't stop herself from wishing she could go to school to learn how to speak English, to solve math problems, and, one day, to become a teacher. Enter Laurie, an American volunteer for the Hope Institute of Uganda. When Laurie arrives in Joy's village, her life soon begins to change. After Joy loses her family's special bracelet, Joy and Laurie re-trace Joy's steps from the day before, beginning a journey of friendship, love, and hope-a journey that just may change the course of Joy's young life. All she has to do is find the missing bracelet
