Puts you in the game!

I use this book in my second grade classroom to model how to write a book that puts you in a particular experience with the author. The words are beautifully chosen and simple, but very poetic. There are so many examples of literary techniques. The first time I read it, the boys are always mesmerized. This is a fantastic book. They ask for it to be read over and over.

Hoops

Swish! Panting hard as they run down the court, the team needs to score! They don't want the ball to get stolen so they keep passing it. All of a sudden, one boy is wide open so he takes the shot. To find out what happens next, you'll have to read the book Hoops. Hoops is an excellent book and it uses great word choice. Similes such as "like tides going in, going out," and metaphors help the book flow together as if it were actually happening. The book has a good rhythm to it, making it even more enjoyable. An interesting quote that I chose from the book was "hoops, the game, feel it." This quote tells about the game of basketball. This book's main point would have to be that if you try your hardest, you will succeed. If you like basketball you will especially like this book. On the other hand, if you're just looking for a great story to read, Hoops is your solution.
