Book Overview

Compelling, Adventurous, Heart-warming and Rich in History and Culture. One of those stories that should be required reading . Review by Cynthia A. Morgan - Reedsy Discovery An entertaining and well-written historical novel about the invasion of Poland in 1939. The plot is excellent, the story flows, the characters are interesting, and the war timeline keeps you hooked till the end. Overall, this is an excellent historical novel, poignant and fascinating. I loved this book! It was explosive and it was brutal ! Without warning, Captain Markus Kazanowski and his command were pitched into a desperate defence against the murderous invasion by a hostile nation. Isolated at his border post and unable to connect with his Command Centre, he undertakes a daring plan. Together with his 2IC, Lieutenant Piotr Bulkowski, his trusted Sergeant, Berek Saks, and the other members of his unit, he is determined to hold the enemy, if only for a short while. Vowing never to surrender, Markus is thrown into a journey of conflict, comradeship, tragedy, love and compassion in his resolve to continue the fight, in the vain hope of liberation. Along the way his endeavour is challenged on meeting Anna, the beautiful and alluring Hungarian aristocrat. Would he continue the odyssey with Berek, his comrade in arms, or succumb to his new found love?
