Honor Bound

After having lost the war, British now have left the rebels to themselves. For the Avery family, they must make their way to Canada, wary of the rebels who despise the Tories. Meanwhile, the eldest daughter Honor has gone missing and their only hope of finding her is by reaching Canada. After having their father return from the war against the American Revolution, Miles and Patience must travel to English territory to escape from the taunts of their rebellious neighbors. They and their Mother and Father must also look for Honor, the eldest of the children. Along the Avery's' adventure north they meet Alf Brown, a young drummer boy who travels along with the Avery's, and James Trudget, a very friendly British officer who helps the family travel through the wilderness of Canada. Their new neighbors, the Tricks, are very accustomed to the wild and forested area of the land. Their child, Sam Trick, is also a friend with the Indians surrounding woods. After settling down, the Avery's learn that Honor is currently located in Quebec, but only have one week to find her. With the help of Alf Brown and Grimble, a villainous thief, Miles reaches Honor before her departure to England and takes her home. One of the things this story has which makes it so suspenseful is all of the danger the Avery's face wherever they are. When the father returns to home in Philadelphia, They must be careful to avoid the other people in town who are rebels. Another danger the Avery's must be cautious of is the threat of the savage Indians living in the woods they must travel through. There is also a notorious thief who went into hiding and wild animals, who may prey upon them. The personality of each character is varied well. The villainous bank robber, Grimble, is in reality a kind fellow, just a dishonorable robber. Alf Brown was an odd character who was a turncoat, turning from being a loyalist to fight with the rebels. But he becomes an Englishman again, saying he just does what he can to get along in life. Miles is also a unique person. He is a small teenage boy who dreams of becoming an officer in the British army, and who hates the guts out of every rebel. Later in the story he decides he wants to stay in the farm and not go into the army. This book also has a nice flow in the plot. It starts with Miles's father coming home from the war and then departing with his family to leave to Quebec. Then after they lose the eldest daughter, Honor, they meet Alf Brown, who helps their journey through the woods towards Canada. When they reach there they meet Tom Trudget, a soldier who helps the Avery's find some land they could own. After receiving their farm, they meet new neighbors, the Tricks, who help them with the farming life the Avery's are so unfamiliar with. This is an excellent historical fiction, based on the Revolutionary War. Many books based on the American Revolution can not match the creativity of this literature work.
