Start of Great New Series

A 12 year old boy takes a gun to school and calmly shoots two students and a teacher. Dr. Tamsen Bayn is asked to do a forensic evaluation of the boys parents to see if they could have somehow contributed to their son's aborrent behavor. What turns a nice boy into a cold-blooded killer?Simultaneously, Dr. Bayn is offered a dream job at Grandines Pharmaceuticals to help tout their new wonder drug. Trying to balance both assignments, Dr. Bayn's curosity and tenacity uncovers possibilities and coincidences too chilling to ignore. When people at the drug company start to die Tamsen is determined to find the truth. This is a polished, multi-layered first novel. Chern presents believable characters and freightening premises. Ms. Chern is herself a forensic psychiatrist and liberally sprinkles the book with "insider" thinking in her field. I'm looking forward to future books with Dr. Tamsen Bayn. I highly recommend Homicidal Intent if you want a book that will hold your full attention to the last page.

Great debut!

Fast-paced, interesting details, likable protagonist and creative premise, all wound together with skill. A good read and I'll look forward to the next one!

Riveting!!

Most often, I stick with my favorite authors when purchasing a book, ie, Cronwell, Evanovich, Patterson, Sanford. When I do try a new author, I am usually disappointed. Not this time! Homicidal Intent is a fantastic book! Fast-paced, suspenseful and full of intrigue. I can now add Vivian Chern to my list of favorites! When can I read the next one!? :)

exciting medical thriller

Well-behaved twelve-year-old Jason never gave his parents any trouble. Yet one day he walked into his school with a gun and calmly killed three people (two students and a teacher) and injured another student. He then calmly put the gun down and went over to table and grabbed some popcorn. The city of New York is horrified that something like this could happen at such an upscale school. The prosecutors want to try him as an adult but even they want to know what triggered this unprovoked attack. The lead prosecutor on the case asks his live-in fiancee, Tamsen Bayn to evaluate the child's parents. At the same time she agrees to help, she also plans to represent Grandines Pharmaceuticals with their new drug that is coming out on the market in a few weeks. While taking it, alcoholics won't have the urge to drink. As people connected to Grandines start dying, Tamsen begins the dangerous game of sleuthing which leads to a possible link between the two cases and a possible acquittal for Jason. This is an exciting medical thriller in which appearances are deceiving and what you know probably will kill you. It is the tale of ruthless men who will do anything to attain their goals and it is the story of one doctor acting as the Lone Ranger trying to stop them. Both the heroine and the villains are believable helping make the story line reminiscent of the works of Robin Cook and Michael Palmer.Harriet Klausner
