HomeSpun brings to life an unforgettable family story and the history of India. The characters are real enough to get to know, their courage, sacrifices, faults, failings, infatuations. It's deeply human, a story about human nature, the recklessness and futility of war, and the honour of people's lives/loves. Somewhere along the way the line between fiction and non-fiction is blurred and it becomes a true story. I couldn't put it down.

Homespun is an intriguing story across generations that pulls you into experiencing how major events in India's history played out in ordinary (and sometimes extraordinary) lives and does so with persuasive emotional detail. I did not want the novel to end.

I was extremely moved by Nilita Vachani's tale, which spans generations and masterfully weaves the political landscape into the drama of everyday life. A gem of a story, a compelling "page turner," lyrically written and poignant. Take this journey inside India: its people and its history. I can't recommend it enough.
