Dan Stanley is a loner and is very secretive about himself. He doesn't want anyone to know what he actually can do. When his dad tells him he must leave home as soon as he finishes high school, Dan sets out on his own. He has a job working at an apartment construction site, but no place to live. He starts out in an old abandoned shack but soon is sneaking into vacant apartments each night. When the job ends, he travels to Richmond where he finds a new job and begins making friends. He lives on the streets until he buys a van that he makes into his home. Eventually this job ends, and his adventures and travels across the country begin. From Virginia, to Pennsylvania, to Nebraska, and finally to Texas, Dan is in the right place at the right time. He makes his plans and follows them. He doesn't know it, but someone else has a plan for him, also.
