Homecoming Queen

In this stunning coming of age novel, acclaimed author Linda Hughes delivers a powerful story of heartbreak and the healing power of love during the tumultuous the 1970s. Women can discover their self-worth in the most unexpected ways. Llayne Robertson is the least likely coed on campus to be elected homecoming queen. Broke, broken-hearted, and waitressing at a house of burlesque, she's an unknown outcast surviving in the shadows of typical college life. That is until the members of the Vietnam Veterans Club set their sights on Llayne as their candidate for homecoming queen. An uproar by traditional students solidifies their resolve. They may have lost battles overseas, but this is one fight the vets are determined to win. As the shiny crown is placed on Llayne's head, she realizes the real victory lies in the unexpected bonds of deep friendship that have been forged during the campaign. When she falls in love with a veteran, she discovers that the battle is not over for those who fought. Her newfound confidence serves her well as she navigates the tragic remnants of war. Homecoming Queen is a richly compelling story of a young woman who finds within herself a surprising wellspring of courage, grace, and determination. Llayne Robertson embodies the strength and resilience of women everywhere who triumph over life's most challenging struggles. That is the best homecoming of all.

Screen Play Material

Great fantasy that would make an excellent movie...Michelle Pfeiffer could play the older woman. Highly recommended.

Wonderful!

A voracious reader, yet I can count on one hand the stories that have touched me as Homecoming Queen did. Fountain Street Heat was every bit as engrossing. I highly recommend anything Linda Hughes writes!

Old Photos and Go-go Boots

"Homecoming Queen" is for all the women who wince and laugh when they see old photographs of themselves in go-go boots, and who still cry over old lovers. Hughes brings it all back - and then some. Be prepared for the sweet, uncomfortable memories of an era when love was free and death was something no one was prepared for.

Great Read II

I realized too late that I had mistakenly rated Homecoming Queen with four stars rather than five. Please correct my typo and change my rating to 5 stars. If ever a book deserves a top rating, Homecoming Queen is it! Thank You, CLR

Don't be turned off by the cover, this is a great book!

I read HOMECOMING QUEEN in manuscript form and loved it. But I got to say I probably wouldn't have read it if I had seen it with this faux 70's miniseries cover. The book is so much better than the cheesy cover would lead you to believe. So I guess it's literally a case of don't judge a book by the cover. HOMECOMING QUEEN is a story that will stay with you for a long time after you've finished it - how often do you come across a novel you can say that about?I can totally see it becoming a movie. And when it does, I hope it has a better poster than the book has cover!
