A wonderful read and successful debut by author Lana Lynne! She takes us back to post-Civil War Arkansas as three friends return home from battle and etches a beautiful portrait of all that is involved in a difficult return home. Soon, the boys discover that their families have been fighting there own kind of battles during those difficult years. But even against a backdrop of emotional scars and regret, there is redemption, hope, and joy. Many surprises await these ex-Confederate soldiers, including love. The author has an uncanny sense of storytelling about her as you literally find yourself walking the dusty roads and fields of Rockport, Arkansas with her characters. Her descriptive prose and crisp dialogue put you right in the middle of the story and will have many finishing the entire book in a single read. I'm not a huge reader, but I was totally caught up in this endearing, Christian-based story. This is a wonderful book for middle school through adult and is filled with family-based values. If you're a parent and looking for something wholesome for your pre-teens and teenagers, you can rest at ease when they take hold of this one. And trust me, regardless of what your age, once you've read Lana Lynne's book, you'll be waiting for her next effort...hopefully, sooner than later.
