This unique volume displays the parallel texts of a pair of today's most popular evangelical Bible editions. Together, the New King James Version and New International Version represent the two major approaches to modern Bible translation. The New King James Version, an updating of the renowned King James Version, is technically known as a formal equivalent translation (often referred to as "word-for-word"). This means that scholars rendered the Hebrew, Aramaic and koine Greek of the biblical text into English that is as close as possible to its original meaning. The result is a translation that is particularly valuable for careful analysis of the text. The New International Version represents the "thought-for-thought" school of Bible translation (technically known as dynamic or functional equivalent). This method places the priority on the intended meaning of the original vocabulary, adapting it to English syntax and grammar. Such a translation tends to be easier to read and understand. The NKJV and NIV texts are arranged in two columns on each page of the Contemporary Parallel Bible, enabling readers to easily compare the word and phrasing choices made by the scholarly committees that brought these highly regarded translations into being.

I grew up reading and learning from the KJV, and I still value the poety writing of the olden days. I moved to the NKJV for ease of readability some ten years ago. However, as a Jr High youth leader, most of my students are reading the more natural NIV. I looked everywhere for a parallel Bible that had only the two versions and this was the only one I found. It's an awesome print, great shape. I ordered it "used" in "like new" condition and was pleased when it arrived shrink wrapped. If it was used, I don't see how. I recommend this book to anybody and everybody serious about biblical study. It easily helps any leader, pastor, or teacher dealing with students who use different versions as these are by far the two most common.
NKJV/NIV Parallel Bible Review

Product arrived in great shape. This is the best comparison of reliable traditional and modern Bible translations. And, yes, I know what some "rabid" folks have to say about the NIV. Boy, is the print small. Just wish that there was a large-print edition, but this particular parallel version appears to be out of print.
Compare Translations from Two Different Greek Texts

Ever wondered why we have so many different versions of the Bible? For example, there's the formal equivalent versions, i.e., word-for-word or literal translations and the dynamic equivalent versions which are not so literal but attempt to pull out the writer's meaning. The New King James Version, a modern, updated version of the King James Version, is a word-for-word, literal translation translated from the textus receptus Greek text. It's a very accurate version of the Bible. The New International Version is a dynamic equivalent translation which is not so much word-for-word as it conveys the thought or meaning that the writers of the scriptures were trying to convey. More than that, however, the NIV is based off the Alexandrian Greek text (Critical Text) which differs from the textus receptus Greek text. Thus, we have two very popular versions of the Bible which read differently in many passages mostly in the New Testament. In fact, the NIV omits several verses in the New Testament such as Matthew 18:11, Luke 4:8, Acts 8:37, Acts 23:9, Romans 13:9, as well as leaves out many words in other verses which are found in the NKJV. Thus, the dilemma. It's a good idea to know where these two popular versions differ, especially if you're a Bible class teacher or minister whose students read from various versions. Thus, "The Contemporary Parallel Bible: New King James Version/New International Version," can be an invaluable asset in your study's. This is a well-made volume which will last for years and years. The only reason I did not give it 5-stars is that the print is small (for me anyway). Other than than, I highly recommend it.
