And the winner is...

To most teens in America, Hollywood stars are royalty. In her Christy award winning young adult novel, Hollywood Nobody, Lisa Samson shows us that celebrities are people, just like everyone else. Blogger Scotty Dawn has a unique life. She lives in an RV because her mom, Charley, is a food stylist. The two travel from movie set to movie set giving Scotty the up-close-and-personal on many of Hollywood's A-list. She secretly blogs about these superstars on her Hollywood Nobody blog, which is growing in popularity every day. But Scotty is lonely. On the set of her mother's latest job, Scotty makes friends with newbie actor, Seth Haas, but is disappointed when he starts dating snotty "it girl" Karissa Bonano. Scotty keeps her distance from the new "couple," thankful she's able to vent incognito via her Hollywood Nobody blog. When Charley starts getting suspicious phone calls, Scotty wonders what's up? Why do they always have to run? Who is Charley hiding from? And does it have anything to do with Scotty's father? Scotty Dawn is a joy to read. I loved her antics from her blogging rants to her acting debut as a life-size mustard bottle. For a quick and fun read, with some surprise plot twists, Hollywood Nobody is a winner. Highly Recommended. Check out book two: Finding Hollywood Nobody (Hollywood Nobody Series, Book 2).

Fun, faithy YA novel with Hollywood twists

Hollywood Nobody by Lisa Samson is the first in a new YA series about 15-year-old Scotty Dawn. Scotty's mom Charley is a food designer for small independent films, so they spend their life in a beaten-down RV (that Scotty calls Y) traveling around the country from shoot to shoot. Scotty has freedom most teens would dream of, and she gets to meet assorted Hollywood personalities. But the downside is that her freedom comes at a price: Charley is hiding a secret about their past that is putting Scotty in danger. And meeting the stars isn't so interesting when you end up seeing how unstarlike they are in person. But on a new shoot, Scotty meets her crush, up and coming star Seth Haas, and she starts to rebel against the restrictions her mother puts on her and starts to want answers. I love Lisa's writing; no matter what the book, she always manages to nail the character's voice with accuracy and bring life to the story. This is a great read for teen girls, but also their moms! Scotty is smart (she homeschools herself) and funny with a dry wit and original sense of fashion. She looks at every journey as an opportunity for teaching herself more about the world and her place in it. She's searching for her home, and in that quest for belonging, she starts to investigate Jesus and religion. Her fresh take on Christianity and honest questions are fantastic. Charley and Jeremy are frustrating (as they are meant to be) in their refusal to open up to Scotty, but in the end, as they explain, their reasons become clear. Scotty is a great character and role model for young girls and she gives insight for moms into how their daughters think and look at the world.

Great 1st Young Adult Book by a Great Author

HOLLYWOOD NOBODY has as its main character Scotty, a 15 year old who lives a very nomadic life as the daughter of a food stylist for movies. Because of this lifestyle, she is exposed to things that most of us wish we could protect our children from...drugs, drunkeness, warped body images, promiscuous sex, over-the-top materialism, etc....but thru it all, Scotty stays clean and innocent. Not innocent because she's naive...no, she's seen too much for that. But innocent because she HAS seen that stuff and has seen the negative consequences of it and is well grounded enough to know that she wants no part of that self-destructive behavior. Scotty is ubersmart, fun, creative, independent, but not perfect. She disobeys her mom and eats lots of cheese....which is forbidden by her vegetarian single parent. She's got lots of great qualities, but she's still a "real" teenager with real issues and real flaws. But despite those flaws and areas of disobedience, she's a good kid with a great big loving heart just trying to find her place in the world while desperately wanting a normal life surrounded by normal people. Lisa Samson has once again given the world another awesome book! Both my teenage daughter and I are looking forward to the sequel, FINDING HOLLYWOOD NOBODY, and hope Scotty's adventures end no time soon!

I plowed right through this delightful read!

I devoured this book in two days. I rarely want to sneak off and read a book until I finish it, but this was one of those books. I adore anything Lisa Samson writes anyway because she is edgy and unconventional, but I'm telling you that she has a real winner here. The heroine is a fifteen-year-old girl, Scotty, who reminds me of several teens I know. Hey, I have a fifteen-year-old son and a fourteen-year-old son and I still loved the book, so you don't have to be YA to read it and love it. I adored how Scotty even had herself a pet phrase... "I'm just saying". One reviewer said sometimes some of the things Scotty thought seemed old for her age. I totally disagree. I have very smart kids and they think like Scotty did...exactly. Teens are very perceptive these days. And Scotty had wisdom beyond her years due to exposure to many things she shouldn't know. The author made that point very well several times. I loved the blogging theme of the story (of course) and the topics covered on the Hollywood Nobody blog. It was so realistic...right down to the funny comments. The main characters seemed so real to me. Her mother reminded me of some hippies I know (and knew) when I was younger. Very funny stuff! Especially the cheese fetish. Scotty was just so quirky and cool. I know several teens who love vintage wear and are so classy and weird in their own way, just like Scotty. I found her totally likeable and believable. Wonderful story. Intriguing plot. Hot topics (and great tension) with a hottie hero who is a movie star and also a great guy because Hollywood hadn't ruined him yet. So check this book out. I guarantee it'll hold your attention. The ending is killer satisfying, but leaves you wanting more at the same time. March 2008--when the sequel comes out--is not soon enough for me. I loved this book!

Good Teen Fictioni

It's great to find good teen fiction. This one is a winner. Scotty Fitzgerald is a fifteen-year old girl, who has a most unusual lifestyle. Her mother, Charley, is a food designer for movie sets, a former hippy, and a vegan. She's also not one to follow the rules too closely. Even lets Scotty drive their travel trailer, although she's underage. It worries Scotty, but Charley thinks it's okay. Scotty is a good kid, a computer geek with a blog called Hollywood Nobody. She knows the movie industry from the inside out, and isn't impressed. Her only rebellion is sneaking a slice of cheese once in a while when she can't take the vegan diet any longer. Then Scotty meets Seth Haas, actor, and an all around nice guy. He treats her like a sister, and that's fine, but she wants him to be more than a friend. Just as Scotty begins to feel like a normal teenager for a change Charley begins acting even more strange than usual. Scotty realizes she's been trying to evade someone all along, and they might have just run out of luck. Quirky characters, snappy dialogue and deft touches of humor set this book apart. Hollywood Nobody is the first book in a new series and it's one teenage girls are going to love.
