Holly Byrne: The Mask of Sanity

The book follows a girl named Holly Byrne from the age of six months to her early twenties. She experiences many setbacks from an early age, such as bullying and the loss of one of her parents. These events lead to a drastic isolation from society, making her mind a petri dish for unwelcome thoughts and things of an altogether more strange nature. Despite her marked intelligence-or perhaps because of it-she begins to see creatures that may or may not be real; she falls into worlds beyond the mortal coil, full of absurdities and adventures; and she meets a maniacal Archdemon who invites her to take a leading role in a supposed prophecy that will shape the destiny of mankind.

Throughout the book, the narrative neither affirms or denies what appear to be Holly's psychotic episodes, making the case that whatever is in one's head is as much a part of the real world as anything else.
