Hoard to Get: Writing Dragons That Don't Suck - Creating Compelling Dragon Shifter Romance

By Imogen Blake

Dragons are everywhere. Good dragon romance is rare.
You know why? Because most writers treat dragons like werewolves with wings. They slap on some fire-breathing, throw in a possessive growl, and call it dragon romance.
That's not dragon romance. That's shifter romance with a different animal.
Real dragon romance is about ancient power meeting vulnerability. It's about solitary creatures finding connection. It's about being treasured by something that hoards what it values. It's about the beast who's lived for centuries choosing you.
And it's hard to write well.
Your dragon needs to be powerful without being boring. Your possessiveness needs to be romantic without being controlling. Your mate bond needs to feel earned, not like instalove. Your dragon needs to feel genuinely draconic-not like a werewolf who happens to fly. Your hoards and lairs need to matter. Your flight scenes need to soar.
This book teaches you how.Building dragon mythology that makes senseCreating dragons with depth and fireWriting flight, fire, and hoard scenes that landBalancing possessiveness with agencyAvoiding the tropes that make readers cringe (kidnapping isn't courtship)Making your dragon distinctive when readers have seen every variation
Write the Bite: Book 8.
For writers who want to write dragon romance that's actually good.
Because readers deserve better than another rich alpha who says "mine" every three pages.
