History of the State of Colorado (Volume III)

By Frank H. Hall

Book Overview

Gold camps, raw townsites, and a government struggling to keep pace with a restless frontier: Frank Hall turns Colorado's formative decades into vivid, documented history. The past feels startlingly close. As the third instalment in his monumental Frank Hall Colorado history, History of the State of Colorado (Volume III) deepens the story of a territory and young state carved out of the Rocky Mountain West, tracing politics, commerce, and everyday frontier and pioneer life against the backdrop of Colorado mining boom history. Drawing on records and contemporary accounts, Hall offers a Colorado state history book that is both meticulous chronicle and compelling western frontier history study. Legislative battles, town-building, law and order, and the shifting fortunes of miners, ranchers, and merchants appear in patient detail, giving depth to Colorado territorial government history and to the complex society emerging in the Colorado territory 1800s. For readers curious about Rocky Mountain West history, this comprehensive Colorado history volume captures not just events but the ambitions and anxieties of a region in transition. Long recognised as a landmark in Rocky Mountain scholarship, Hall's narrative stands as a trusted reference book for historians and a rich Colorado genealogy research resource for anyone tracing families, communities, or institutions. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure, perfectly suited to both keen readers of western history and those building a classic state histories collection.
