Book Overview

HIS RELUCTANT MISTRESS

Book 2 of Aikenhead Honours series

Lord Leo Aikenhead-playboy, rake, irresistible to women. Except one...

Leo becomes acting leader of the Aikenhead Honours in late summer 1814, when they are sent to spy at the Congress of Vienna, where most of the crowned heads of Europe are assembling to carve up the continent. Aided by his brother Jack and their friend Ben, Leo uses his reputation as a notorious rake to cover his spying activities.

For once, Leo's success with the ladies is not assured. He encounters Sophie, a woman who is more than a match for him. But there is increasing unrest in France and the Duke of Wellington wants his own spies on the ground there. Wellington orders the Honours' forces to be split-Jack and Ben to France, Leo to remain alone in Austria to defend England's interests.

Can Leo tackle all the intrigue alone?

And how much is he prepared to risk to rescue the woman he loves?

Revised edition of the novel originally published by Harlequin S.A. in 2009

A Woman Trying to Survive

From the back of the book: Lord Leo Aikenhead -- renowned rake, skilled seducer and expert spy -- has finally met his match. For opera singer Sophie Pietre may have the voice of an angel, but she will be no man's strumpet--no matter how handsome he is! But these are dangerous times in Vienna, with betrayal and deceit round every corner. Sophie's tempted by the offer of protection and -- she can no longer deny it -- even more tempted by the offer of a place in his bed. This is the second in a series about the three Aikenhead brothers - Dominic, Leo and Jack - who are English gentlemen but also spies nicknamed Ace, King and Knave. The first book, His Calvery Lady, is the story of Dominic. This book is about Leo and the following book, His Forbidden Liaison, is about Jack. It is not necessary to read each book in order but nice to do so. I liked the story okay but not nearly as much as the one about Dominic. Even though Sophie has the most beautiful voice and is loved by her audiences, her life is one problem after another. Leo is instantly attracted to Sophie and in spite of himself can't get her out of his mind or his life. Life's twists and turns brings them together over and over.
