When brilliant cadets at the Avatar Academy uncover a criminal ring in Baltimore smuggling massive quantities of pure plastic, one young Venusian sees a chance to be a hero. Bevers Sonnof, an enthusiastic but clumsy cadet with a love for bad jokes, proposes a dangerous mission: to neurally-hijack the body of a human criminal, Alan Jackson, to get close to the illicit cargo.

Despite being forbidden by his protective mother-the Mayor of Venus City-and his stern commanding officer, a planetary power surge causes a computer glitch, erroneously approving Bevers' audacious plan. Thrust into Alan's life on Earth, Bevers must navigate a criminal enterprise, suspicious police, and his host's eccentric, ghost-hunting mother, all while trying to secure the life-saving coordinates.

In over his head, Bevers gets an unexpected backup team when his own mother, Mayor Nona Sonnof, undertakes a risky mission of her own, hijacking the body of another smuggler to save her son and her city. Together, this mother-son duo must operate from within the minds of two human crooks to pull off the ultimate heist and save their world from an impending deep freeze.
