The marriage game... Walking down the aisle toward striking but cold CEO Chase Whitaker was never meant to be Zara Elliot's fate. But to safeguard the family business, she'll have to play along... Chase is only interested in one thing--his own dark game of revenge against Zara's father. The one thing he hadn't counted on? Zara's charm and natural beauty unsettling his rock-hard defenses. But their wedding night proves to be a game changer, and they both realize they're in over their heads. Losing is never an option for Chase...but winning suddenly takes on a very different meaning
I disliked the preceding book in the series, "His For A Price". It was lacking! But I thoroughly enjoyed this tale! Crews carried the Whitaker family saga on in brilliant fashion; the characters were strong, interesting, intelligent, and driven-if a bit flawed. I related well to the protagonists, Chase Whitaker and Zara Elliott. Chase is solemn, haunted, tragic- self-flagellating. His business sense and success in London does not equate with a successful imagine as he seeks support for the CEO role in Whitaker Industries upon his father's passing. Chase is blackmailed by Amos Elliot, Chairman of the Board, into marriage with his daughter- but surprisingly the intended bride absconds leaving her sister, Zara, to face Chase at the altar. Zara is quite a different prospect! The press labels the curvaceous, humorous, scholarly Zara as the "Ugly Duckling Sister". Her family demeans her; they fail to recognize or acknowledge her strengths, or her sacrifices, in this power play between Amos and Chase. Can Chase come to know the special woman Zara is? To respect and validate her? Revenge is what Chase seeks; will he sacrifice Zara in his pursuit of it? A MUST read!
