His Captive Truth: A Blackthorne Files Novel
He was hired to keep her contained. He never planned on believing her.
Rafe Calder has spent eleven years as Blackthorne's most reliable pair of hands - discreet, deniable, and, when it suits the men who sign his checks, disposable. He does not ask questions. He does not get involved. He follows the file. His newest assignment sounds like the easiest money he has ever made: escort heiress Celeste Laurent to a fortified estate deep in the winter mountains and hold her there, quietly, until her family's lawyers say the danger has passed.
The file says she is fragile. Unstable. In need of protection from herself.
The file is lying.
Celeste knows exactly what is happening to her. On her thirtieth birthday she is set to inherit control of the Laurent Foundation - and someone inside her own family will do anything to make sure that day never comes. Locked away with a silent, watchful stranger who was paid to be her keeper, she has one weapon left: the truth. And the more of it she hands Rafe, the harder it becomes for him to keep pretending he is only doing a job.
When the estate's power dies and armed men come up the mountain in the dark, Rafe finally understands that the people who hired him are the ones with everything to hide. To survive, he will have to burn down the only life he has ever known - and trust the one woman he was sent to cage.
Beneath the estate lies a sealed vault, and inside it, a secret old enough to unmake two dynasties. Exposing it will cost them everything. Protecting each other may cost them more.
His Captive Truth is the fourth novel in The Blackthorne Files, a series of dark, standalone romantic-suspense thrillers about powerful institutions and the people brave enough to tell the truth about them. Each book follows a different couple to a satisfying happy ending - no cliffhangers, no cheating, and a slow-burn reckoning worth every page.
For readers of forced-proximity, captor-and-captive tension, enemies-to-lovers suspense, and conspiracies that hit close to home.
