Jolene is a hospital dietitian with a happy, middle-class existence in Appalachia. She has a special relationship with her attractive renter, Brad, and lives on a quiet farm in the Kentucky hills. Things take a turn when her hospital announces it has fallen victim to corporate downsizing. Newly unemployed, she scrambles to find the best available job in a depressed economy, and considers it a blessing when hired at CapMed. However, not all is as it seems. The staff, under the management of Miss Sweets, are a kooky cast of characters representing multiple facets of Appalachian life and are working under a veil of anxiety. Their hilarious office conversations are the only bright spot in a dismal workplace. Jolene soon finds herself at odds with her bumbling new manager, Miss Sweets, as well. Finally, using a special gift, she learns dark secrets about her new employer and must decide to fight or walk away. Can Jolene be the one to free them all from the oppression? Or will she lose everything in the process?
