Hiking in and Around Verde Valley

An account of hiking and camping with members of the Skyliner Hikers in and around Verde Valley, Arizona during 2010 and 2011. Most of the hikes described were on trails in the greater Verde Valley area, ranging from Mingus Mountain in the south to the Mogollon Rim country north and east of Sedona and from Sycamore Canyon in the west to the Fossil Creek area in the east. Also included is a three-day camping trip to hike Paria Slot Canyon at Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness in northern Arizona.The Paria River Canyon trip was the highlight of the year. We did the 38 miles from White House in southern Utah to Lees Ferry in Arizona in three days. The four hikers who participated enjoyed every minute of the trip; our only regret was that we did not schedule four or five days in the canyon to allow more time for exploration along the way.
