In his political action thriller "Hijack at Malacca" Sydney Gould has taken the present day world oil crisis to develop a plot filled with danger that leads to International consequences. The story centers on Yvonne Bakuna, a French secret service operative with Nigerian roots and Amari Okira, leader of the People's Movement of Nigeria. Yvonne was raped as a child and wants to avenge the men who raped her. They wore the Nigerian army insignia. The experience left her with a strong "desire to help resolve political machinations in Nigeria where the pumping of oil with inflated prices had taken its toll on the nation." Amari, as head of the People's movement, has devised a plan whereby crude oil will be traded for weapons which will then be used as bargaining chips with the government of Nigeria to ease the burden of the commoner. Yvonne is recruited by Amari to work with him in implementing the operation. Jason Wells an American business man with substantial resources, known as a community leader, humanitarian, and a philanthropist was also enlisted to help. Jason was to arrange for a ship from a Canadian line to carry out the planned transfer of Nigerian oil to be taken by tanker to Singapore. The plan backfires on Amari and Yvonne as they discover Jason has betrayed them and has his own plan to have the ship hijacked at Malacca, Jason would then be the majority benefactor of the operation. Gould writes with a flare for imaginative plotting, character development and fast moving dialog that carries a dynamic plot. This is a fast paced adventure action story with plot twists, clandestine meetings, and a harrowing story of greed, murder, and commitment to a cause, as well as courtroom drama. Detailed research and background provided on the shipbuilding industry, on the politics and economy of Nigeria, International law, the extradition process, police investigative procedures, and the parameters within the justice system add to the credibility of the story line, which includes romance, betrayal, greed and murder. Entertaining, enjoyable, suspenseful, and informative, "Hijack at Malacca" will quickly become a topic for conversation among the readers of political action and legal thrillers.
