Princess with a backbone!

This is the first book I've read of Haywood Smith and I enjoyed it immensely. I love well-written historical novels set in Scotland (or Caledon as it was known then). Princess Bera is a strong intelligent woman that possessed fighting skills her brothers had taught her. Only a character as strong as Curran could attract her and let her be who she was without stifling her strong personna. I look forward to reading other similar books by this author.

Beautiful

This is a wonderful story of love found in the most difficult times in the most unexpected way. A moving tale filled with desire, and unexpected turns in events. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and will soon be reading many others by this author.

A gripping historical set in a wonderful time period

Well-researched, exuberant, and gritty, this is not a book for the regancy readers!The hero and heroine are both rare characters, decent, honorable, and clever, band truly deserve each other. If you love anything Celtic, you will certainly enjoy this.

If you like to read stories that are set during the Medieval-Scottish era you are in for a treat. This romance is about a head strong warrior princess and a compassionate male mercenary. Princess Bera has twelve brothers who have trained her to stand on her own so she will never have to suffer what thier mother did. If you enjoy to read history and passion weaved into a well written tale with great characters you MUST read this!

A beautiful love story

Nine of Princess Bera's brothers came in peace, but were betrayed and captured by Lord Drust. He holds them in his dungeon. Her three remaining siblings offer Lady Bera in marriage to anyone who frees their siblings.As good a warrior as any of her brothers, Bera decides to try to liberate her brothers so she would not have to marry anyone. She disguises herself as a weaver to gain entrance to Drust's manor. At the same time Curran the Dark Knight also goes after the prize.
