After the Laird of the Stewart clan (Liam Stewart) catches a homeless woman, Mahri, stealing bread in his village for two young orphan boys, he brings her back to his castle and locks her in a bedchamber until he deems her sentence served. The only time she is allowed out of the bedchamber is to eat the evening meal. Because he doesn't want her talking to any in his clan, Liam makes Mahri sit next to him.Over time, Liam becomes interested in Mahri. He learns her parents were killed when she was twelve and she has lived on the streets ever since. One night, someone breaks into Mahri's bedchamber and tries to abduct her. Although the abduction fails, Liam tells Mahri she cannot leave the castle because she not safe from whoever tried to take her.Since she has nothing to do all day, he supplies her with books and starts visiting her regularly. They develop a relationship. When Liam's men scour that countryside for the abductor, they find Mahri's parents alive and bring them to the castle. Mahri is happy to see them and they her. Her parents assume she will leave the castle to come to their country cottage. Mahri wants to stay at the castle and Liam wants her to stay. Mahri feels she needs to go with her parents or break their hearts. She could never be happy at the castle thinking of her parents far away unhappy to have found their daughter and been rejected.Will Liam find a way where Mahri can see her parents every day and she can live at the castle? Will they have a happy relationship or will evil drive them apart forever?
